Buffer Park Golf  Course, located at 3825 Foltz St on the southwest side of Indianapolis near Mann Road, is the only championship-style 9-hole public course for golfers of all skill levels. The Course has four tee boxes: black, blue, white, and pink. The fairways are large enough to land a plane or awkward shot.

The bunkers are huge if you are misfortune to reach them. Even if you are a beginner, the distance between the fairway and the rough is at least 100 yards. Even when aiming for the bunker, my shot ended up in the middle of the rough.

9-hole Course Conditions

I visited Buffer Park Golf Course on a windy, lightly sprinkling November day. Despite the weather, the course was completely dry. The course layout is hilly, though both the fairways and greens are flat. If your ball hits the fairway, you get an extra 50 yards of roll.

The concrete path connects all 9 holes, making Buffer Park Golf Course easy to navigate. Some tee boxes looked chopped up, but the divots were sand-filled. I felt like I was in a country club instead of a public course. The greens rolled smoothly, although they were on the slower side.

Facilities & Amenities

Buffer Park Golf Course facilities are ok, but not bad. There’s not any extra fluff just a small putting green for pre-game practice. Buffer Park pro shop has the average selection of hats and golf balls, typical of a 9-hole or Par 3 course.

The two guys who I met at the front desk shared helpful course pointers. There is a restaurant, although I didn’t try it. But let’s just the facts, It was rainy and I was more worried about getting in all 9 holes. Buffer Park focuses most of the money on the golf course, which I greatly appreciate.

Final Thoughts

I recommend riding the course rather than walking unless you’re in good shape. While I walked every course I reviewed and logged about 12,000 steps daily, I was exhausted by the 6-hole. Buffer Park Golf Course stretches over 3,285 yards from the back tees. While the bunker adds a nice design touch, It wasn’t a realistic challenge. You can beat the scenic holes, but the course didn’t require much precision or focus.

Buffer Park Golf Course’s condition matches some higher-end Country clubs. The fairways were generally in great shape, but there were a few patchy areas in places where the grass was a little thin. Cart rentals are available, but the course is walkable for some on a nice day. With it’s championship-style surface, I highly recommend Buffer Golf Course for any golfer seeking a fast and affordable. it’s certainly worth checking out more great Indy Par 3 Courses, I’ll see you at Hole 19.
